Iraqi Prime Minister Orders Investigation into Arms Smuggling Operation to Syria

Baghdad, July 16 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi Joint Operations Command announced on Thursday that Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali al-Zaidi, has ordered the formation of a high-level committee comprising relevant authorities and specialists to investigate the details of an operation smuggling weapons and missiles across the Iraqi-Syrian border into Syrian territory.

The Command stated in a press release that the Iraqi side would coordinate with the Syrian side to ascertain all details related to this operation and hold those responsible accountable, in order to ensure the preservation of security and stability along the shared border and prevent any attempts to undermine national security.

Earlier on Thursday, the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced that it had foiled an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of specialized weapons across the Syrian-Iraqi border, preventing their entry into Syrian territory. (End) A.H.H. / M.N.F.
