European Union Approves X Platform's Commitments to Address Digital Content Violations

Brussels, July 15 (KUNA) -- The European Union announced on Wednesday its approval of the commitments made by the social media platform X to address violations of the Digital Services Act rules that led to a fine of 120 million euros (approximately $137.55 million). Thomas Renier, the European Commission spokesperson for digital affairs, said in a press statement that the measures pledged by the platform “represent an important step in the right direction,” adding that they “will enable researchers, civil society organizations, and the public to gain greater transparency regarding X’s systems and their impact on users.” The platform committed to improving researchers’ access to data, including advertising content, and responding to their requests in a timely manner. It also revised the blue verification badge classification to indicate users subscribed to the paid service, rather than “verified” users.
