Arab League Secretary-General reaffirms support for Sudan's unity and sovereignty and rejects external interference

Cairo, July 15 (KUNA) – Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy reaffirmed on Wednesday the League’s support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and its rejection of any external interference in its internal affairs. The Arab League said in a statement that this position was conveyed during a phone call with Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohi ad-Din Salem, who stressed the importance of an immediate ceasefire and ensuring the safe and sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need, as well as the protection of civilians. The statement clarified that Fahmy emphasized the League’s readiness to play its role in supporting all efforts aimed at ending the crisis, coordinating with various regional and international parties, and paving the way for a Sudanese-led political process that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security, stability, and development. He added that the Sudanese Foreign Minister congratulated Fahmy on assuming his duties as Arab League Secretary-General, wishing him success in leading joint Arab action in the coming phase. The statement confirmed that the call also covered the latest developments in Sudan, with the Sudanese minister briefing the Secretary-General on the most recent developments related to the crisis, regional and international efforts to halt the war that has been raging for more than three years, as well as the Sudanese government’s position and ways to resolve the crisis.
