Kuwait's Blue Team defeats its Syrian counterpart in its opening match of the West Asian Championship

Muscat, July 15 (KUNA) – The Kuwait national volleyball team defeated its Syrian counterpart 3-0 on Wednesday in their opening match of the second West Asia Men’s Volleyball Championship, hosted by the Omani capital, Muscat.

The Blue Team deserved the victory, which was attended by Kuwait’s Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, Dr. Mohammed Al-Hajjar, after a strong performance that secured wins in the sets with scores of 25-17, 25-15, and 25-16. This result guaranteed Kuwait’s qualification for the semi-finals ahead of their next match against Qatar on Saturday.

In another Group B match today, the Iraqi team defeated Saudi Arabia 3-1. This result allowed Oman, which beat Lebanon yesterday, to take the top spot in the group during the tournament’s opening round.

The Sultanate of Oman is hosting the second edition of the West Asia Men’s Volleyball Championship at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat from July 14 to 21, featuring seven national teams. Group A includes Kuwait, Syria, and Qatar, while Group B comprises Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Iraq, and Oman.

Group stage competition is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, followed by the knockout stages on July 20. The semi-finals will feature a fifth-place playoff between the third-placed teams from each group, as well as two semi-final matches pitting the first-placed team from one group against the second-placed team from the other.

The championship will conclude on July 21 with a third-place playoff and the final to determine the champion of the second edition.

The tournament follows a single round-robin format within each group, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals to compete for the title. (End) M.J.B / M.A.H.A
