Morocco announces signing of agreement to participate in the International Stabilization Force in Gaza

Rabat, July 15 (KUNA) — Morocco announced on Wednesday the signing of an agreement regarding its participation in the International Stabilization Force in the Gaza Strip, a move that will contribute to supporting security and stability in the Middle East region. The Moroccan National Defense Directorate stated in a press release, carried by the Moroccan News Agency (MAP), that this development followed the reception by Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and the Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister in charge of National Defense, Abdellatif Loughdidi, of Nicolas Mladenov, the High Representative of the Peace Council for Gaza, who led a high-level delegation. The statement clarified that the agreement establishes the legal framework governing the technical and operational aspects of Morocco’s participation in the International Stabilization Force, reflecting a shared commitment to enhancing peace and security in the Gaza Strip through concrete humanitarian and security initiatives. It added that this step aligns with Morocco’s obligations as a founding member of the Peace Council and implements directives from King Mohammed VI, King of Morocco, Supreme Commander and Chief of Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, and Chairman of the Jerusalem Committee, which were announced during the Council’s inaugural meeting held in Washington. The Moroccan side affirmed that this participation embodies its country’s steadfast commitment to the values of peace, cooperation, and international solidarity, highlighting Morocco’s experience in United Nations peacekeeping operations alongside its regional and international initiatives aimed at promoting security and development. The statement also conveyed the appreciation expressed by officials of the Peace Council for Gaza and the commander of the International Stabilization Force for Morocco’s engagement in this initiative, through the deployment of officers from the Royal Armed Forces to the Force’s Joint Command, as well as personnel from the Royal Gendarmerie and the General Directorate of National Security, in addition to the establishment of a field military hospital to support humanitarian efforts.
