Britain announces $13 million allocation to support recovery efforts in Gaza

London, July 13 (KUNA) -- The United Kingdom announced today the allocation of a funding package worth 10 million pounds sterling (approximately 13 million US dollars) to support Palestinian-led recovery efforts in the Gaza Strip. The British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said in a statement that the funding would support Palestinian-led efforts, in coordination with the United Nations, alongside European and international initiatives in the fields of water and sanitation, healthcare, education, housing, rubble clearance, and the reduction of risks posed by unexploded ordnance. The statement added that rebuilding these essential services constitutes a necessary step toward achieving a two-state solution, which remains the only path to establishing lasting peace. The announcement coincided with the participation of British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper in the donors’ meeting for Palestine held in the Belgian capital, Brussels. Cooper is scheduled to meet Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa to discuss support for Palestinian institutions and early recovery efforts in the Gaza Strip, as well as to continue international coordination in this regard.
