Morocco, France, and the African Union Commission offer condolences to Qatar on the death of the Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa
Kuwait City, July 12 (KUNA) — Morocco, France, and the African Union Commission expressed their sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the State of Qatar on the passing of the Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, may God have mercy on him.
In Morocco, the Moroccan News Agency reported that King Mohammed VI sent a message of condolence and sympathy to Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the death of the late Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa. The agency added that the Moroccan monarch recalled the outstanding achievements of the deceased, which contributed to modernizing Qatar and developing its economic and political capacities, thereby enhancing its regional and international standing and enabling it to effectively support just Arab causes and strengthen Arab and Islamic solidarity. He affirmed that the Kingdom of Morocco holds the late Emir in the highest esteem for the strong fraternal ties and supportive stances he maintained with Morocco, noting that he never hesitated to provide various forms of support to his second home, Morocco, whether in its development projects or in just national issues.
In France, President Emmanuel Macron expressed his heartfelt condolences to the State of Qatar on the passing of the Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa. The Élysée Palace, the presidential residence, stated in a press release that “President Emmanuel Macron expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, his family, the Qatari government, and the Qatari people of all stripes on the death of the Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa,” emphasizing the deep relations between the Qatari and French peoples. Macron clarified, “He was determined to enhance his country’s standing in international forums, devising an effective diplomatic approach that cemented Qatar’s position as an active party recognized and respected in international relations.”
In Africa, African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa, offering his sincere condolences to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Qatari government and people, and the ruling family. The African Union Commission quoted Faki in a statement saying that the late Emir would remain in memory as “an exceptional leader and a statesman with a far-sighted vision” who, through his wisdom and political acumen, succeeded in transforming Qatar into a prominent international actor. He pointed out that his legacy is embodied in his firm commitment to dialogue, mediation, and diplomacy, and his belief in the importance of peaceful solutions to address regional and international challenges, affirming that Qatar’s contributions to enhancing international peace and stability, particularly through mediation efforts and facilitating dialogue among parties to conflicts, reflect a deep commitment to multilateralism and peaceful settlement of disputes.
