Egypt stresses complete rejection of any infringement on the territorial integrity of Somalia

Cairo, July 11 (KUNA) -- Egypt has firmly rejected any attempts or measures that could undermine the territorial integrity of Somalia, including any recognition of the so-called “Somaliland,” describing such actions as a violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release on Saturday that this position was conveyed during a telephone conversation between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Somali counterpart, Abdulsalam Ali Omer. The two ministers discussed bilateral relations, developments in Somalia’s internal situation, and recent regional developments, particularly in the Horn of Africa.

During the call, the Egyptian minister reaffirmed his country’s full support for the Federal Republic of Somalia and its national institutions, emphasizing Cairo’s commitment to Somalia’s security and stability, and reiterating Egypt’s steadfast position in support of Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

For his part, the Somali minister expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s continuous support across political, developmental, and security levels, commending Egypt’s firm positions backing Somalia’s unity and sovereignty. He also affirmed the commitment to continue coordination and consultation with Egypt on various bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest, contributing to the enhancement of security and stability in the Horn of Africa region.
