China: Tens of thousands evacuated, classes and production suspended in some cities ahead of Typhoon Pabuk

Beijing, July 10 (KUNA) -- China announced on Friday the evacuation of tens of thousands of people and the suspension of classes and production in some cities as Typhoon Pabuk approaches the southeastern coastal provinces. Estimates from China’s National Meteorological Center indicate that Typhoon Pabuk will make landfall on Saturday evening in areas stretching between Fujian and Zhejiang provinces. The Chinese Ministry of Emergency Management had previously dispatched 50,000 relief supplies to these provinces to help shelter those in need.

Meanwhile, the Xinhua News Agency reported that in the coastal aquaculture area of Ningde city in Fujian province, 11,749 fishermen were evacuated and 37,433 fishing vessels were withdrawn to safe harbors. In Zhoushan city, part of Zhejiang province, 14 coastal tourist sites were closed and 40,000 tourists were evacuated. Several cities in the same province announced the suspension of classes, public transport services, and construction site operations, as well as the closure of shopping malls and large parks.

It is worth noting that the Guangxi region in southern China experienced continuous heavy rainfall in recent days due to the influence of Typhoon Ma-on, which led to devastating floods and landslides that claimed the lives of 39 people. (End) S.L.Q. / M.A.K.
