Turkey's export value index rose by 14.2 percent in May

Istanbul, July 10 (KUNA) – Official Turkish data released on Friday showed that Turkey’s unit value export index rose by 14.2 percent in May compared to the same month in 2025. The Turkish Statistical Institute stated in a statement on Turkey’s foreign trade indicators for May that the unit value import index for the same month also increased by 14.2 percent compared to the same period last year. The statement added that the export index rose by 8.8 percent in the food, beverages, and tobacco sector, by 11.3 percent in raw materials (excluding fuel), by 52.5 percent in fuel, and by 12 percent in manufacturing industries (excluding food, beverages, and tobacco). Meanwhile, the import index for food, beverages, and tobacco fell by 2.4 percent, while it rose by 49 percent in fuel, by 4.3 percent in raw materials (excluding fuel), and by 6.4 percent in manufacturing industries (excluding food, beverages, and tobacco). The import and export indices measure both the quantity of goods imported or exported (in tons) and their value, comparing them on a monthly or annual basis. The trade balance index, calculated by dividing the unit value export index by the unit value import index, stood at 89.6 points in May 2026, compared to 89.5 points in May 2025, recording a slight increase of 0.1 point.
