Arab Parliament welcomes Washington's initiation of procedures to remove Syria from the list of state sponsors of terrorism
Cairo, July 10 (KUNA) -- Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Yamahi welcomed on Friday the United States’ announcement to begin procedures for removing Syria’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism, calling for support of recovery and reconstruction efforts and the enhancement of stability and economic development in the country.
In a statement, Al-Yamahi said this “positive step” represents an important development that supports Syria’s return to playing its natural role on the international stage and contributes to alleviating the economic and humanitarian burdens on the Syrian people. He expressed hope that this move would help revitalize the economy, attract investments, and advance reconstruction efforts in a manner that meets the aspirations of Syrians for security, stability, and prosperity.
Al-Yamahi reaffirmed the Arab Parliament’s firm and supportive stance toward all Arab, regional, and international efforts aimed at backing Syria, preserving its unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and strengthening its institutions to restore security and stability and safeguard the Syrian people’s resources.
In the same context, he called on the international community to continue taking steps that would support Syria’s stability, economic recovery, and enhanced cooperation to consolidate security, stability, and development in the region, emphasizing that Syria’s stability constitutes a fundamental pillar for the security and stability of the entire Arab region.
It is recalled that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Wednesday the start of the process to remove Syria’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism, following notification of Congress of this step. President Trump had previously informed his Syrian counterpart, Ahmed al-Sharaa, during their meeting in the Turkish capital Ankara on the sidelines of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit, that Syria would be removed from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism.
