Head of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council: Concessions to Iran and its armed proxies will not contain its threats in the region
Aden, July 9 (KUNA) -- Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi affirmed on Thursday that the legitimate government remains committed to the path of peace, without it coming at the expense of sovereignty, dignity, and the security and stability of Yemen and the future of its generations.
The state-owned Yemeni News Agency (Saba) reported that this statement was made during al-Alimi’s meeting with leaders of the National Coalition of Political Parties and Components, to brief them on the latest Houthi escalation and the blatant Iranian violation of Yemeni sovereignty through the dispatch of a Revolutionary Guard aircraft to Sana’a airport, which is under the control of the militias. The aircraft carried experts and technologies with military applications, in a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions and Yemeni sovereignty.
Al-Alimi stated that the Iranian regime’s resumption of its attacks on countries in the region confirms that leniency toward the Iranian project and its armed wings will not contain the threat. Instead, it enables the exploitation of such understandings in mobilization contexts, presenting them as victories without regard for the reality of destruction, devastation, and suffering on the ground.
He added that “the Yemeni state was clear from the outset in warning that any regional understandings that do not address the root of the problem—the Iranian project—will not lead to sustainable peace, because this project is based on exporting crises and investing in conflicts, not ending them.”
He pointed out that the developments currently witnessed in the region represent a significant shift that should be leveraged politically, diplomatically, and nationally to strengthen the Yemeni state’s position and accumulate elements of strength in preparation for ending the coup and restoring state institutions.
He clarified that this development, along with military escalation on various fronts, attacks on shipping lanes, assassination operations, and continuous violations, once again proves that the Houthi militias have never been a genuine partner for peace, but rather an existential threat.
He stressed that “if the militias continue to escalate and reject their obligations, the state will continue to take all necessary measures to protect the interests of the Yemeni people and restore its institutions, relying on internal front unity and determination to end the isolation endured by millions of Yemenis in areas forcibly controlled by the militias.”
He called on political parties and components to play an active role in this regard, moving beyond traditional political work to lead national awareness and strengthen the internal front, noting that the current stage demands the highest levels of national cohesion in the face of the Iranian project and its destructive tools in Yemen and the region.
