Qatari Prime Minister discusses developments in the military escalation between the US and Iran with foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Turkey, and the UAE

Doha, July 9 (KUNA) -- The Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, held talks today, Thursday, with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and the United Arab Emirates’ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on the latest developments in the military escalation between the United States and Iran over the past two days.

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in separate statements that this came during a phone call made by the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister to the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Oman, while he received phone calls from the Turkish Foreign Minister and the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

The Qatari official expressed Qatar’s condemnation and rejection of the attacks that targeted commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, despite the current climate of de-escalation and efforts made to reduce tensions in the region. He stressed that such actions would undermine trust, threaten the security of international navigation, and harm efforts aimed at consolidating regional security and stability.

He emphasized the necessity for all parties to commit to dialogue and diplomacy, and to implement what was agreed upon under the memorandum of understanding, in a manner that contributes to preserving the region’s security, safeguarding achieved gains, and enhancing regional stability.

Qatar reaffirmed its support for all efforts aimed at containing the escalation and reaching a comprehensive agreement that contributes to consolidating security and stability and achieving sustainable peace in the region. (End) S S S / M K
