Qatar condemns and rejects attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz

Doha, July 9 (KUNA) -- The Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, expressed on Thursday Qatar’s condemnation and rejection of the attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, despite the prevailing atmosphere of de-escalation and efforts to reduce tensions in the region.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that this position was conveyed during a phone call received by the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in which they discussed the latest developments in the military escalation between the United States and Iran over the past two days.
The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister stated that “such actions would undermine trust, threaten the security of international navigation, and harm efforts aimed at consolidating regional security and stability.”
He emphasized the necessity for all parties to commit to dialogue and diplomacy, and to implement the agreements reached under the memorandum of understanding, thereby contributing to preserving the region’s security, safeguarding achieved gains, and enhancing regional stability.
The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister reaffirmed Qatar’s support for all efforts aimed at containing the escalation and reaching a comprehensive agreement that would consolidate security and stability and achieve sustainable peace in the region. (End) S.S.S / G.A.
