Qatar strongly condemns the targeting of the Saudi tanker Wadiyan

Doha, July 7 (KUNA) -- Qatar strongly condemned on Tuesday the targeting of the Saudi tanker Wadiyan as it transited the Strait of Hormuz, deeming it a serious violation of international maritime safety, a direct threat to global energy supply security, and a clear and blatant breach of international law. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that the continuation of these unacceptable attacks constitutes a dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region, undermines efforts to consolidate regional security and stability, and erodes the gains achieved following the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, including de-escalation and enhanced maritime security in the region. The ministry reiterated Qatar’s call on Iran to immediately cease any practices that jeopardize regional security, stop endangering international maritime safety and global energy supplies, fully comply with international law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, and take urgent measures to prevent the recurrence of such attacks.
