Washington, July 7 (KUNA) -- U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held talks today, Monday, with his Chilean counterpart, Francisco Macaya, focusing on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the economic field, regional security, and other issues of mutual interest. The U.S. State Department said in a statement that the meeting focused on reviewing joint efforts to combat mass illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations, as well as ways to strengthen regional security. The statement added that both sides reaffirmed during the meeting their commitment to supporting democracies in the Western Hemisphere, including in Bolivia. Rubio and Macaya also discussed opportunities to boost U.S. investments in Chile’s critical minerals sector and ways to counter “hostile” influence in critical infrastructure. Rubio welcomed Chile’s recent signing of the “Pax Siliconia” declaration, and both sides expressed their commitment to deepening cooperation on artificial intelligence supply chain security within the framework of this initiative. It is worth noting that “Pax Siliconia” is a U.S.-led international initiative focused on enhancing cooperation with partners to strengthen reliable supply chains for advanced technologies, particularly semiconductors, AI infrastructure, critical minerals, and energy and data-related infrastructure.
