Britain calls on the Rapid Support Forces to halt their offensive on El Obeid and allow aid access

London, July 3 (KUNA) -- British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper called on Friday for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan to immediately halt their attack on the city of El Obeid, emphasizing the need to enable civilians to leave safely and ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those in need. In a video posted on her official X account, Cooper stated that all parties to the conflict, including the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces, must protect civilians and comply with international humanitarian law, urging both sides to agree on a ceasefire for the sake of the Sudanese people. She highlighted the “horrific atrocities” witnessed in El Fasher, warning against a recurrence of such violations in El Obeid and stressing that those fueling the conflict in Sudan must cease their actions. Cooper also called on the international community to unite its efforts to demand the restoration of peace and stand with the Sudanese people, noting that the UN Human Rights Council is discussing the situation in Sudan today at the request of the United Kingdom, as hundreds of thousands of lives are at risk.
