Britain provides additional aid worth $5 million and a field hospital to Venezuela

London, July 2 (KUNA) -- Britain announced today, Thursday, the provision of additional aid worth 3.8 million pounds sterling (approximately $5 million) to support humanitarian relief efforts in Venezuela following two devastating earthquakes. The British Foreign Office confirmed in a statement that it had decided, in coordination with other ministries, to send an emergency medical team with a field hospital to be deployed in the hardest-hit areas, with a treatment capacity of up to 100 patients per day. The statement noted that “the United Kingdom stands with those affected and remains committed to helping save lives and supporting recovery efforts in the coming weeks,” adding that the British government had provided initial financial assistance worth 2 million pounds ($2.66 million) last week at the onset of the natural disaster’s repercussions. Northern Venezuela was struck on Wednesday by two violent earthquakes, the strongest of which measured 7.5 on the Richter scale, causing hundreds of deaths and the destruction of numerous buildings, particularly in the capital, Caracas, and its suburbs.
