Istanbul, June 30 (KUNA) -- Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held talks with European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas and her accompanying delegation on Turkey-EU relations. The meeting took place on Tuesday in Ankara, where Fidan met with Kallas, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Marta Kos, and European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner.
In a post on the Turkish social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Fidan said, “We had the opportunity to discuss all current developments in the context of Turkey-EU relations, ranging from foreign policy and connectivity to trade, migration, and visa issues. We also assessed current regional and global issues, particularly the situation in the Middle East, as well as in Russia and Ukraine.”
He emphasized that EU membership remains a strategic goal for Turkey and that they are prepared to develop relations with the EU on this basis. Fidan stressed that Turkey looks forward to the EU improving its relations with Turkey based on objective criteria and merit, without discrimination.
Earlier on Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also met with Kallas and her delegation in Ankara. (End) TA/MWH
