Cairo, June 19 (KUNA) -- Egypt has denied the authenticity of claims circulating on certain unofficial social media pages abroad regarding the signing of investment contracts for the establishment of 108 gold and precious metals mines in northern Sudan as part of a strategic partnership. In a statement issued on Friday, Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources emphasized that statements attributed to Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Engineer Karim Badawi, in this regard are entirely false and baseless. The statement clarified that Minister Badawi did not make any remarks to Egyptian radio containing such information, nor has the Ministry or its affiliated entities issued any official statements or announcements related to the content being circulated. It reaffirmed that any projects, agreements, or contracts pertaining to petroleum or mining activities are announced exclusively through the Ministry’s official channels and those of its affiliated bodies and companies, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and the provision of correct information to the public. The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources noted that developing Egypt’s mining sector and maximizing its contribution to GDP are among its top priorities, as the sector is undergoing positive transformations through comprehensive reforms aimed at creating a more attractive and competitive investment environment, thereby maximizing the utilization of mineral resources and opening broader avenues for partnerships with local and international investors. It further affirmed its right to take necessary legal action against those spreading false news attributed to the Ministry or its officials. (End) A.S.M. / A.M.S.
