Muscat, April 27 (KUNA) – Oman and Russia discussed today, Monday, ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and partnership across various economic and investment fields, and to review promising opportunities in several priority sectors. The Oman News Agency reported that this took place during a meeting between Omani Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Sayyid Dhi Yazen Al Said, and Russian Minister of Economic Development, Maxim Reshetnikov, who is currently visiting Oman. The agency stated that both sides reviewed areas of economic cooperation and partnership and ways to strengthen them, in a manner that benefits both countries and supports their sustainable development efforts.

The agency quoted the Russian minister as saying that Oman is one of Russia’s “promising” partners in the Middle East region, highlighting joint work on projects in multiple fields including logistics, the financial sector, information technology, and agriculture. Reshetnikov pointed out in this context the importance of Russian exports in enhancing Oman’s food security through the supply of wheat and barley, as well as other products that enable Russian companies to compete effectively in the Omani market.

He clarified that Moscow imports chemical products and petroleum derivatives from Oman, noting that high-quality Omani perfumes are gaining increasing popularity in the Russian market. The Russian minister affirmed that Oman’s shift toward solar energy, wind energy, and green hydrogen allows Russia to offer its innovative solutions, including the use of artificial intelligence technologies in urban planning, water management, and climate monitoring.

On the tourism front, he noted that this sector is the fastest-growing in Russia, pointing out a 13 percent increase in the number of Russian tourists visiting Oman, and that the number of Omani tourists traveling to Russia has doubled since the implementation of the visa exemption system between the two countries last July.
