Kuwait Telecommunications Company (stc) launched the first awareness workshops as part of the Private Universities Challenge for E-Waste Recycling, organized in collaboration with the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs and the Eco Incubator for Renewable Energy. The initiative aims to enhance environmental awareness among students at participating private universities, encouraging them to adopt sustainable practices while highlighting the importance of e-waste recycling and mitigating its environmental impact.
The official announcement of the initiative took place during a ceremony held at the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs’ theater to launch the Private Universities E-Waste Recycling Challenge, attended by representatives from the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs, the Eco Incubator for Renewable Energy, and several private universities.
The first workshop was held at the Kuwait College of Technology (K-Tech), under the patronage and attendance of Al-Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ahmad. This step reflects the importance of joint efforts between the public and private sectors and educational institutions to support environmental initiatives and strengthen the culture of sustainability among youth.
The workshop featured participation from several stc employees who delivered the awareness content, explained key concepts, and introduced the company’s efforts and initiatives in this field. The company also engaged with students by providing incentive gifts to enhance their participation and encourage the adoption of positive environmental practices.
The pioneering environmental initiative brings together seven private universities: the Arab Open University, the Kuwait College of Technology (K-Tech), the Canadian College in Kuwait, Box Hill College Kuwait, the Australian College, and the Gulf University for Science and Technology. It includes a series of awareness workshops and diverse university activities.
Additionally, stc organized a special workshop on sustainability involving students, showcasing the company’s concept of sustainability, its key efforts and initiatives in this area, and highlighting its sustainability report, which details achievements, goals, and sustainable practices.
stc employees’ participation in delivering these workshops stems from the company’s commitment to transferring their expertise and knowledge to students and sharing their experience in sustainability. This includes providing dedicated collection bins within participating universities to facilitate the sorting, processing, and proper recycling of e-waste.
In line with its commitment to empowering youth and enhancing their active participation, stc offers university students the opportunity to join the Youth Ambassadors program. This program aims to attract ambitious youth to serve as brand ambassadors within their universities, participate in various events and activities, represent the brand, and engage with fellow students.
The program offers participants more than just practical experience; it also includes a performance-based financial reward system. Reward values are linked to the number of lines that ambassadors help activate, according to the program’s approved terms and conditions. It also provides a practical opportunity to develop communication, marketing, and customer service skills, build a professional network, and enhance readiness for future career experiences.
Participating universities will be honored at the conclusion of the initiative. A comprehensive environmental report detailing participation results will be presented, along with awards for the top three universities based on the approved evaluation mechanism.
In a statement, stc expressed its pleasure at the launch of this initiative, emphasizing its commitment to continuing cooperation between the public and private sectors, particularly as the initiative highlights the importance of partnerships among educational institutions, environmental entities, and private-sector companies in supporting national sustainability efforts and providing practical opportunities for youth to engage in environmental initiatives.
She added, “This initiative will offer students the opportunity to contribute to environmental efforts within their university communities, while also enabling them to gain a deeper understanding of sustainable practices that help mitigate the environmental impact of electronic waste.”
The company clarified that combining workshops with e-waste collection will help students connect their learning with actionable steps they can take themselves. It stressed that this approach supports its certified sustainability program, encourages environmental responsibility, and integrates sustainable practices into daily behavior.
In conclusion, stc reaffirmed its ongoing role in supporting sustainability principles and corporate social responsibility by backing environmental initiatives, empowering youth, and fostering community engagement through programs that combine awareness with practical participation, thereby reinforcing the concept of sustainability within Kuwaiti society.
