Al Arabi secured a valuable victory by defeating Al Nasr 2-1 in their match yesterday, as part of the eighth round of the Zain Premier League.

With this result, Al Arabi’s tally rose to 12 points, temporarily placing them fifth, while Al Nasr remained on 13 points, also temporarily holding third place.

Moryba Diari put Al Nasr ahead in the 23rd minute, but Al Arabi equalized through Zaid Qanbar from a penalty awarded by referee Saud Al-Samhan in the 45th minute. Early in the second half, Ewala missed a penalty that struck the crossbar, and Ali Al-Dokhi headed in the winning goal for Al-Akhdar in the fifth minute of stoppage time, replacing the missed opportunity.

Meanwhile, the curtain will fall on this round’s matches today (Sunday) with two games. Al-Salmiya will face Kazma at 5:25 PM at Thamer Stadium, while Al-Sahel will take on Al-Kuwait at 7:40 PM at the Sulaibikhat Stadium (Friendship and Peace Stadium).

The first match, featuring Al-Salmiya (fifth with 10 points) against Kazma (runners-up with 14 points), can be described as a clash between two wounded teams. Al-Salmiya drew 2-2 with Al-Shabab in the previous round, while Al-Kazma missed this round after losing 6-0 to Iraqi side Erbil in the Gulf Club Champions League.

On the other hand, a loss for Kazma in today’s match could hasten the departure of Croatian coach Tadić.

The matchup between Al-Sahel, who sit last with four points, and league leaders Al-Kuwait with 16 points, follows a similar pattern. Al-Sahel lost 3-2 to Al-Tadhamon in the previous round, a match in which Al-Kuwait did not participate. Al-Kuwait, meanwhile, lost 3-2 to away side Nasaf in the second-tier AFC Champions League.

Al-Sahel are currently coached by Saud Dumaide, who took over following the recent resignation of Ali Abdul-Razzaq.

In contrast, Al-Kuwait, under the guidance of coach Firas Al-Khatib, are aiming to continue their winning streak to go top of the table and distance themselves from their rivals.

Al-Khatib may rest several players who featured against Nasaf to allow them to recover.
