Kuwaiti artist and director Kazem Al-Zamil has passed away at the age of 79, following a creative career marked by prolific output and long-standing contributions to the television and theatrical arts, which were followed by years of absence and struggles with illness and blindness.

Bloggers and media figures mourned the late artist, who began his artistic journey half a century ago, delivering works that left a prominent imprint on Gulf drama and theater.

Al-Zamil launched his artistic career in the mid-1970s, playing a key role in laying the foundations of Kuwaiti art as both an actor and director, before stepping away from acting more than two decades ago to focus on writing.

Among his most notable television works were the famous series “Darb Al-Zalaq,” “Al-Warith,” and “Min mafatih al-mahakim.”

Al-Zamil also left his mark on the theatrical stage through his participation in numerous plays, including “Fursan Al-Munakh,” “Ahaman Ya,” and “Tamayuz.” He was distinguished by his awareness-raising contributions to pioneering popular programs such as “Salamtak” and “Al-Amn wa Al-Muwatin,” which he presented for 12 years and which represented his final work before withdrawing from the artistic scene due to his loss of sight.

He subsequently founded a company, leveraging his academic expertise in children’s theater studies to establish a production firm specializing in high-quality performances for children.
