The Italian Ambassador to Kuwait, Lorenzo Morini, affirmed that Kuwaiti-Italian relations represent a model of strategic partnership based on mutual trust and shared values, emphasizing that Italy has stood by Kuwait and will remain a loyal partner and friend. He stressed that the two peoples share values of honor and fidelity to commitments, which form a solid foundation for bilateral relations.
In a speech delivered during a reception hosted by the Italian Embassy to mark Italy’s National Day, the anniversary of Italian unification, and Armed Forces Day, attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Hamad Al-Mushaan, Air Force Commander Lieutenant General Fahad Al-Kharinji, along with a number of officials, ambassadors, and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Kuwait, Morini stated that relations between the two countries entered a new phase following the historic visit to Kuwait by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. This visit reflected the deep ties between the leaderships of both countries and their commitment to expanding the horizons of bilateral cooperation.
He noted that Meloni’s visit resulted in the signing of several important agreements and the adoption of the Italian-Kuwaiti Action Plan for 2027–2030, which serves as an ambitious “roadmap” to enhance cooperation over the next four years.
He added that the plan covers multiple areas, including political dialogue, defense, security, economy, and justice, as well as creative projects, cultural heritage, social policies, and the environment. He emphasized that its implementation is a priority for him in the coming period, in collaboration with relevant Kuwaiti authorities, educational institutions, representatives of the public and private sectors, and civil society organizations.
In reviewing the trajectory of bilateral relations, the Italian Ambassador stressed that military and security cooperation constitutes one of the most prominent aspects of the partnership between the two countries. He pointed out that the participation of Italian forces in Kuwait’s liberation in 1991 marked a pivotal moment in the history of their friendship, which has continued through support for the modernization and development of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces, contributions to enhancing regional stability, and participation in the international coalition against ISIS.
He affirmed that this year’s celebration holds special significance amid the difficult circumstances the region has witnessed, noting that the Italian Armed Forces play an important role in strengthening relations with Kuwait, and that what unites the two countries goes beyond traditional cooperation to reflect bonds of friendship, brotherhood, and solidarity.
He pointed out that the presence of hundreds of Italian soldiers in Kuwait over recent months underscores the importance of solidarity with partners and providing necessary support. He also noted that Italian embassy staff continued their duties and remained in Kuwait even during the most intense phases of the conflict.
