Three years of 'Little Heroes': IKEA and Savola inspire children to learn, play, and connect through sports

Inspired by the Olympic spirit, the “Little Heroes” event featured six dedicated activity zones and more than 20 games, designed to introduce children to a new and diverse range of sports in a fun and welcoming atmosphere.

Over two days, children tested their fitness in running and hurdle races, and honed their shooting skills through basketball, football, and archery activities. They also had the opportunity to explore other sports such as fencing, boxing, and taekwondo.

Speaking on the occasion, Elisa Alpendida, Director of Market Analysis, Consumer Insights, and Brand at IKEA, said: “We believe that children learn best when they are given the freedom to explore, play, and discover new potential.

“Through the ‘Little Heroes’ event, we strive to provide children with opportunities to try new experiences, build their self-confidence through sports and teamwork, and acquire valuable life skills—all in an atmosphere full of fun.

“Alpendida added: “One of the most rewarding aspects is seeing children leave the ‘Little Heroes’ event having discovered a new sport that sparks their enthusiasm and desire to participate in it in the future. We hope this event continues to inspire families to adopt active lifestyles and encourages parents to instill healthy habits that accompany their children and endure throughout their growth.”

This year, the “Little Heroes” event expanded its activities that promote participation, interaction, and inclusion, providing more opportunities for children of all abilities and interests to participate, have fun, and express themselves in a supportive environment.

For his part, Ahmed Al-Majed, Chief Operating Officer at Savex, said: “The ‘Little Heroes’ event is rooted in a simple belief: that within every child lies an athlete waiting to discover their potential. Providing space for movement, play, and exploration helps them bring out these capabilities.

“Through six zones and 20 games, children experienced activities that enhanced movement, teamwork, courage, inclusion, and the joy of achievement, within an atmosphere inspired by the Olympic spirit that celebrates participation over excessive competition. In collaboration with IKEA and our partners, we are proud to deliver a family-friendly sports experience that allows every child to discover the hero within.”

Al-Majed added: “Over the years, we have noticed families’ keenness to return to participate in the ‘Little Heroes’ event, as it offers their children the chance to explore and try different sports in one place.

“Many children leave with the motivation to continue their journey in the world of sports, while parents draw new ideas to help keep their children active throughout the year.”

Building on the shared values between IKEA and Savex, the “Little Heroes” event continues to provide children with opportunities to explore new and diverse sports within an interactive, stimulating, and supportive environment that encourages participation, learning, and enjoyment.

Concluding her remarks, Alpendida said: “For us, the ‘Little Heroes’ event represents more than just a day packed with activities; it aims to help children establish positive habits through play and provide families with opportunities to spend quality time together. We express our gratitude to Savex and all our partners who share our commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of children and families across Kuwait.”

On behalf of IKEA and Savex, we extend our thanks to every child, parent, volunteer, and partner who contributed to the success of this year’s edition of the “Little Heroes” event, making it a distinctive and unforgettable experience.
