Competitions in the fourth round of the league phase of the UEFA Champions League continue today, with a series of strong matches featuring teams with varying ambitions: either strengthening their positions in the race to reach the knockout stages or regaining their balance.
The clash between Spain’s Real Madrid and their Greek hosts, AEK Athens, stands out. The match will be held at the OAKA Arena in the capital, Athens, where the Spanish side aims to continue its strong form and secure another victory to bolster its chances of competing for top spot in the standings.
In contrast, AEK Athens is going through a difficult period in the continental competition, having slipped to the lower ranks of the table and suffering a heavy 5-1 defeat against Manchester City in their last European appearance.
Meanwhile, England’s Liverpool seeks to regain its balance when it travels to face Turkey’s Fenerbahçe.
Liverpool enters the match following its defeat to Arsenal in the English Premier League, a game that sparked controversy due to a disallowed penalty for the team managed by Arne Slot, who appeared angry after the match and remarked, “We must ask our players to dive, because nothing else will be given.”
Away from English Premier League issues, Liverpool has delivered strong performances and results in the continental competition, winning all three of its matches and currently holding a perfect record.
For its part, Fenerbahçe will try to leverage home advantage to secure its first Champions League victory of the season.
In another fixture, England’s Arsenal travels to face the Czech side Slavia Prague at the Fortuna Arena. The match sees Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s side aiming to continue its impressive run in the European competition and consolidate its position among the teams competing for direct qualification to the Round of 16.
Arsenal arrives at the encounter in high spirits after securing a valuable 1-0 away win against Liverpool in the English Premier League.
The London club has also posted a strong Champions League campaign, with victories over Napoli and Lille, alongside a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich, continuing its unbeaten run in the competition.
