The Algerian Ambassador to Kuwait, Omar Belhadj, affirmed the strength and historical depth of Algerian-Kuwaiti relations, noting that both countries are working to hold meetings of the Joint Committee at the earliest opportunity. He added that arrangements for opening a direct air route between the two nations have reached their final stages, contributing to the enhancement and broadening of bilateral cooperation.

Speaking at a ceremony hosted by his embassy to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the November 1, 1954 Revolution, and attended by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Nader Al-Jalal and a large gathering of accredited diplomats, Belhadj expressed Algeria’s full solidarity with Kuwait in the face of the attacks it has suffered. He reaffirmed his country’s firm rejection of any infringement on Kuwait’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the security and safety of its citizens, calling for respect for the sovereignty of states and for dialogue and peaceful solutions to overcome crises.

He stated that this year’s commemoration of the Algerian Revolution, under the theme “November... The Memory of a Nation and the Future of a People,” coincides with the 64th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Algeria and Kuwait, marking an occasion to praise the distinguished level achieved in the fraternal relations between the two countries, thanks to the firm political will and sound guidance of their leaderships, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

At the outset of his speech, Belhadj said that Algeria proudly commemorates the 72nd anniversary of the glorious November 1 Revolution, which put an end to more than 130 years of colonial rule during which the Algerian people endured tragedies and suffering. He explained that the revolution marked a decisive turning point in the country’s history and the beginning of a crucial struggle for independence and self-determination.

He added that Algeria’s independence was achieved after a revolution lasting more than seven years, during which the people made significant sacrifices, including the martyrdom of 1.5 million people. He noted that the Algerian Revolution has become an inspiring model for colonized peoples who rose up against colonialism, and that its principles have inspired liberation movements around the world.

On the economic front, Belhadj mentioned that Algeria continues to build on its economic and social gains, focusing on achieving self-sufficiency, developing and diversifying the economy, and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
