The 42nd Ministerial Meeting of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) kicked off today in the Republic of Turkey and will continue until tomorrow.

The meeting was opened by Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, representing Turkish President and COMCEC Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The Kuwaiti delegation was chaired by Dr. Yaqoub Al-Sayed Yousef Al-Rafai, Minister of Finance, Chairman of the Arab Group of COMCEC, and representative of His Highness the Prime Minister, Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Also in attendance were Turkish Ambassador to Kuwait Mohammad Marzouq Al-Shobok, Kuwaiti Consul General in Istanbul Khaled Badr Al-Khalifa, the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the ministers heading the delegations of OIC member states, and the President of the Islamic Development Bank.

The current ministerial meeting focuses on governmental efforts to develop effective tools for trade finance to boost exports among OIC member states.

In a speech delivered by the Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Arab Group of COMCEC, he noted that “the repeated attacks targeting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and several Gulf, Arab, and Islamic countries within the OIC pose a threat to regional security and stability, casting a shadow over the global economy and supply chains due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and affecting countries worldwide. He emphasized Kuwait’s full solidarity with the member states that were targeted, which necessitates taking urgent measures and policies to address the economic and trade impacts.”
