The General Customs Authority, represented by its Air Cargo Customs Department, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, represented by its General Directorate for Combating Narcotics, thwarted an attempt to smuggle 50 sheets saturated with a narcotic chemical, weighing approximately 323 grams in total. The substances were professionally concealed inside a child’s car seat within a postal parcel arriving from Canada, and the suspect linked to the incident was apprehended.
The arrest followed suspicions by customs inspectors regarding one of the shipments during the inspection of incoming mail, leading to a thorough search. A bag containing A4-sized sheets soaked with the narcotic substance was found inside the car seat’s drawer, in an attempt to conceal and bypass customs controls. This was reported in a statement issued by the Customs Authority.
The General Customs Authority reaffirmed its continued efforts to combat drug smuggling attempts through all entry points, and to strengthen cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Interior and relevant authorities to safeguard national security and public safety.
