Two informed sources said that an informal poll conducted by the UN Security Council showed that Rebecca Greenspan, the former Vice President of Costa Rica, has strengthened her position as a leading candidate in the race for the UN Secretary-General post, which would make her the tenth person to hold the office if she wins.
Greenspan received 11 votes in favor and four against among the 15-member Council, marking her strongest result in seven rounds of closed-ballot voting held over recent months to choose a successor to António Guterres, whose second five-year term in the post expires this year.
