The Ministry of Oil announced today, Saturday, the launch of the fifth season of the “Oil Innovates” award, in collaboration with the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Talent and Creativity, one of the centers under the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences. This initiative aims to attract national innovative ideas and projects, harness creative energies to provide practical solutions to challenges facing the oil and gas sector, thereby enhancing operational efficiency, supporting technological development, and promoting sustainability.

In a press statement issued by the ministry, Sheikh Tamaz Khalid Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Director of the Public Relations and Petroleum Media Department at the Ministry of Oil, stated that launching the fifth edition builds on the successes achieved by the award during its previous four seasons and reflects the ministry’s commitment to entrenching a culture of innovation and broadening participation among inventors, innovators, and entrepreneurs from among national talents. This will enable the utilization of their ideas and capabilities in developing solutions that address the actual needs of the oil sector.

Sheikh Tamaz Al-Sabah emphasized that the fifth season of the award adopts a more specialized approach by focusing on two main tracks: Energy and Artificial Intelligence, to serve the oil and gas sector. This aims to direct innovations toward areas of operational and technical significance and open opportunities for participants to submit feasible and developable ideas that contribute to improving performance and enhancing the use of modern technologies.

She explained that the first track, “Energy,” targets ideas and solutions that enhance energy production efficiency and its utilization in oil operations. These include improving energy efficiency in upstream and downstream processes, leveraging renewable energy sources, reducing emissions, minimizing gas flaring, as well as carbon capture, utilization, and storage technologies, and improving water and energy management efficiency in operational processes.

She added that the second track, “Artificial Intelligence for the Oil and Gas Sector,” focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence and data analytics to develop operational processes, support decision-making, and enhance safety. Applications include predictive maintenance for equipment and facilities, reservoir performance optimization, production efficiency improvement, computer vision for health, safety, and environmental applications, early detection of pipeline leaks, development of digital twins for facilities and assets, and improvement of supply chains and logistics services.

She praised the collaboration with the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Talent and Creativity, noting that this partnership reflects the importance of integrating efforts between national institutions concerned with innovation and the oil sector, contributing to attracting promising idea owners and nurturing national talents.

In this context, she commended the efforts of Nada Al-Daihani, Director General of the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Talent and Creativity, and all those involved with the center, highlighting their continuous support for the award and their commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Ministry of Oil and providing the necessary conditions to ensure the success of its fifth season, thereby contributing to achieving its goals of encouraging innovation and developing innovative solutions that serve the oil and gas sector.

Sheikh Tamaz announced the launch of the dedicated website for the fifth season of the “Oil Innovates” award to receive electronic registration and participation applications starting from November 1, 2026. She clarified that the website includes all details related to the award, such as competition tracks, target categories, participation terms and conditions, evaluation criteria, prizes, and the submission mechanism, along with answers to frequently asked questions. This will enable interested participants to review requirements and complete registration procedures easily and clearly.

Regarding the participation criteria, Al-Sabah clarified that the award targets Kuwaiti citizens aged 21 and above, including engineers, specialists, graduates, postgraduate students, inventors, entrepreneurs, and innovators. Applications can be submitted individually or as part of teams comprising two to five members.

She noted that participation does not require a registered company or a completed project; rather, it accepts ideas, designs, prototypes, and developed projects, provided they fall under one of the award’s two tracks and serve the oil and gas sector. She added that a specialized jury will evaluate entries based on six announced criteria: relevance, innovation, feasibility, impact, scalability, and presentation quality.

Sheikh Tamadher mentioned that the top three ideas will be honored at the award’s closing ceremony, scheduled for January 2027 under the patronage of Oil Minister Tariq Al-Roumi. She emphasized that the award represents an opportunity to showcase national innovations and highlight solutions that can contribute to the development of the oil and gas sector.
