In an initiative to strengthen cultural ties between Kuwait and Thailand, the Thai Embassy in Kuwait donated 100 books to the Kuwait National Library, covering Thai culture, arts, literature, and history. The donation aims to provide readers and researchers with the opportunity to learn about Thailand’s heritage, its civilizational identity, and the lifestyles within its society.
During the book-handover ceremony, Acting Chargé d’Affaires of the Thai Embassy, Orawan Kurtuo, emphasized the importance of cultural exchange in consolidating relations between the two countries and enhancing mutual understanding between their peoples. She noted that the books serve as a bridge for discovering other cultures, histories, and traditions.
She explained that the collection was donated with the support of the Thailand Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting friendship and communication between Thailand and countries worldwide. She added that the books will be added to the “Diplomatic Hall,” which the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters is establishing within the Kuwait National Library.
She expressed her hope that the collection would serve as an intellectual resource that sparks the curiosity of students and readers in Kuwait, encouraging them to discover new aspects of Thai culture. She affirmed that friendship between nations is not limited to official relations but is also strengthened through mutual knowledge and direct communication between peoples.
For his part, Mohammad bin Rida, Acting Assistant Secretary-General for the Antiquities and Museums Sector at the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (“National Council”), stated that the initiative represents a valuable intellectual and cultural addition to the holdings of the Kuwait National Library, offering its visitors the opportunity to explore Thailand’s history, literature, arts, and civilizational heritage.
Speaking on behalf of Council Secretary-General Dr. Mohammad Al-Jassar, bin Rida said that the book donation reflects the robust cultural cooperation between the two countries and contributes to enriching the content of the “Diplomatic Hall,” while enhancing the library’s role in showcasing global cultures and fostering civilizational dialogue and rapprochement.
He added that the Council looks forward to expanding cultural and intellectual cooperation with Thailand, building on joint initiatives, and expressed his appreciation to the Thai Embassy and all parties that contributed to the success of the initiative.
The initiative holds special significance this year, which marks the 63rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kuwait and Thailand in 1963, reflecting both countries’ commitment to further strengthening their ties through culture, knowledge, and mutual understanding.
The book-handover ceremony was held at the Kuwait National Library, attended by Kurtuo, bin Rida, members of the Kuwait-based Thai Students Association, press representatives, and a number of guests.
