This development occurred in parallel with the enhancement of medical, diagnostic, and administrative services. This general trend reflects efforts to strengthen the capabilities of the healthcare system and modernize its facilities, in line with the requirements of specialized care and the growing demand for services, while aligning with the National Development Plan and the “New Kuwait 2035” vision.

After years of work on several major health projects, some have moved into actual operation or are on the verge of opening, while preparation works continue on others. Development has not been limited to construction, but has extended to medical equipment, modern technologies, and the expansion of services provided to patients.

Dr. Muhammad Al-Rashidi, Director of the Al-Farwaniyah Health Region, confirmed that the region is witnessing a notable integration of services between the hospital and primary healthcare. He pointed to the continuous modernization of its administrative, financial, and medical systems, ranging from computerizing accounting operations and electronic fee collection, to developing infrastructure and equipment and expanding services for visitors.

Al-Rashidi told “Al-Jarida” that the hospital received approval from the Ministry of Finance in October 2025 and joined the government electronic payment platform, becoming the first government hospital to achieve this.

Al-Rashidi noted that construction works at the new hospital were completed on May 30, 2022, and actual operations began at the end of 2023, followed by stages of facility preparation and the operation of departments and services.

Al-Rashidi highlighted the expansion of specialized services through the operation of the cardiac catheterization unit, which performed approximately 1,000 cases in 2025. The hospital is also expanding its orthopedic and surgical services and working on developing pediatric developmental medicine services.

The annual average number of visitors to these units is approximately 4,000, including new and returning patients.

Al-Rashidi confirmed that development extends to primary healthcare in the region. This includes strengthening services for chronic diseases, evening clinics, specialized clinics, and preventive examinations. The region’s centers received more than 3 million visitors last year.

The hospital receives approximately 2,200 visitors daily in outpatient clinics and handles around 2,500 cases daily in the emergency department. Al-Rashidi stated that these figures reflect the volume of demand and the need to continue developing infrastructure and operational systems.

He emphasized the ongoing work to develop the region’s facilities and services, including updating accounting and administrative systems, improving operational efficiency, and expanding specialized and day-care services.

The new center is moving into an important operational phase, while the Ministry of Health prepares for a smooth transition from the current building to the new facility. The project is part of efforts to develop cancer and blood disease treatment services and enhance the healthcare sector’s capacity to provide advanced care within Kuwait.

Sources familiar with the matter told “Al-Jarida” that the Ministry holds regular meetings with the center’s officials. These meetings aim to identify needs, prepare necessary lists, and review logistical, technical, and operational preparations to ensure an organized transition without interruption of treatment services.

The hospital was inaugurated in April 2025 under the patronage of His Highness the Amir of the State, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad. The inauguration was attended by His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, the Acting Prime Minister, Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadi, and a number of ministers and officials.

The hospital is located in the Al-Sabah Medical Specialized Area on an area of approximately 65,000 square meters, as part of the National Development Plan and the “New Kuwait 2035” vision. It was designed according to modern standards for the diagnosis and treatment of gynecological and obstetric diseases, and meets green building specifications for energy efficiency.

The new Al-Sabah Hospital is one of the largest health projects currently under implementation in Kuwait, with a capacity of 617 beds distributed across various departments and specialties.

The project is expected to be handed over by the end of December 2026, according to statements by Ibrahim Al-Naham, Assistant Undersecretary for Engineering Affairs at the Ministry of Health. This will be preceded by the connection of electricity, installation of equipment, and completion of operational requirements.

In November 2025, the Ministry of Health laid the foundation stone for the hospital’s third expansion in the Al-Sabah Medical Area. This followed the Cabinet’s approval to accept a donation from the bank to fully finance the project, at a cost of approximately 19 million Kuwaiti dinars, on an area exceeding 22,000 square meters.

The expansion continues the hospital’s development trajectory, which began with Building A in 2000, followed by the addition of Building B in 2017. The hospital provides specialized services, including bone marrow transplantation and stem cell therapy, which have contributed to localizing this advanced treatment within Kuwait.

The upcoming phases include constructing the building, equipping it with medical equipment, furniture, and technologies in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, followed by staff training and system testing in preparation for the opening. A delivery date has not yet been announced.
