His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah inaugurated the opening ceremonies of the first French Week in Kuwait on Monday evening, held at The Avenues Mall under the theme “France in Kuwait.” The event was presided over by His Highness and attended by a number of ministers, sheikhs, senior state officials, as well as ambassadors and heads of Arab and foreign diplomatic missions and prominent public figures.
His Highness toured the exhibition pavilions, which feature wide participation from French institutions and companies operating across multiple sectors, showcasing French expertise and capabilities in culture, automobiles, high-tech industries, and institutional development, alongside the presence of well-known global brands.
The organization of French Week follows the official visit made by French President Emmanuel Macron to Kuwait on Monday of last week, during which he was received by His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The visit marked a significant milestone in the trajectory of Kuwaiti-French relations, which are celebrating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. It saw the signing of agreements and memoranda of understanding in the fields of economy, defense, scientific research, education, culture, and knowledge exchange, reflecting the depth of the strategic partnership between the two sides and its expanding future prospects.
French Ambassador to Kuwait, Olivier Goffen, affirmed that the launch of the “France in Kuwait” exhibition embodies the strength and depth of the strategic partnership between the two countries, built on decades of joint cooperation and continuing to evolve in ways that enhance prosperity and security and serve mutual interests.
He added that French companies continue to offer their expertise and innovations in many priority sectors in Kuwait, while Kuwaiti investors and institutions maintain a significant and valued presence in the French economy.
He pointed out that educational and cultural ties form a core pillar of the partnership between the two countries, growing stronger as Kuwaiti students, families, and visitors continue to choose France as a preferred destination.
The ambassador praised the generous patronage extended by His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah to the event, commending the efforts of Ahmed Ismail Bahbahani, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, and his team in ensuring the success of the event.
For his part, Bahbahani emphasized that hosting the first French Week in Kuwait under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah holds exceptional importance in strengthening bilateral relations, particularly as it coincides with the celebration of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Bahbahani stated that Kuwaiti-French relations are experiencing their peak strength and prosperity, supported by the strong backing of the political leadership in both countries. This was reflected in the historic visit made by His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, to France last year, followed by the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Kuwait on October 19.
He stressed the importance of organizing such joint events on a regular basis, as they add value by opening new horizons for cooperation, strengthening cultural and economic ties, and supporting the path of growth, stability, and shared prosperity between the two friendly peoples.
