Al-Kuwait’s first football team lost to their UAE visitors, Ajman, by a score of 2-1 in the match held today at the Salmiya Stadium, in the second round of Group C of the Gulf Club Champions League.
While Ajman continued to top the table with six points, Al-Kuwait remained at the bottom of the standings with zero points, placing immense pressure on the team as their chances of reaching the semi-finals became slim. They must now win all four remaining matches in their group.
Ajman took an early lead in the fourth minute through Lorenzo, capitalizing on a serious defensive error by Al-Kuwait. They then maintained their attacking pressure, threatening the orange-clad side’s goal with several attempts.
In the 32nd minute, goalkeeper Hussein Kankouni saved his goal from certain disaster by denying Lorenzo one-on-one, pushing the ball out of the penalty area.
Ajman doubled their lead in the 36th minute following a corner kick, which Moroccan player Walid Azaro rose to head skillfully into the net.
Al-Kuwait’s performance improved noticeably, as the team abandoned its cautious approach. Coach Dragan Tadich made attacking substitutions, bringing on Torlies Knohl, Nasser Mohammedwah, and later Sultan Al-Anzi.
In the 52nd minute, Mohammedwah passed the ball to Shuaib Al-Khaldi, whose shot was saved by goalkeeper Ali Al-Housni.
From an organized attack, German substitute Torlies Knohl managed to narrow the deficit, scoring Al-Kuwait’s first goal in the 56th minute.
Al-Kuwait pressed hard in the remaining minutes in search of an equalizer, but without success.
