Jordanian Minister of Communications Mohammad Al-Momani said on Tuesday that airstrikes carried out by the Royal Jordanian Air Force in southern Syria on Monday killed “more than 20 members” of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS).
Al-Momani clarified that “initial results of these operations indicate, so far, significant losses among ISIS ranks, estimated at more than 20 members, and the destruction of a large weapons depot belonging to the group.”
He affirmed the Jordanian government’s pride in the fraternal relations linking the Kingdom with the Arab Republic of Syria, as well as its commitment to developing relations and coordination in the face of all shared challenges.
He stated that the operations were carried out based on field intelligence to neutralize confirmed threats and terrorist operations against Jordan, which refrained from targeting sites where information indicated the presence of civilians, and expressed regret over the occurrence of civilian casualties.
Al-Momani emphasized that Jordan always takes all precautions to avoid harming civilians, whose lives are of the same importance to Jordan as the lives of Jordanians.
He affirmed that no one can doubt Jordan’s commitment to Syria, noting, “We hosted Syrians, stood by their side, and provided them with continuous support.”
