Sources familiar with the matter told the German News Agency (dpa) that a drone believed to belong to the international coalition targeted a car on the Damascus-Homs international highway near the town of Qara, approximately 100 kilometers away, carrying Libyan military leader Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Libi and two others, resulting in their deaths and injuring a fourth person on board.
Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Libi is believed to be a prominent leader of the hardline Haras al-Din group, which was established in early 2018. Several of its leaders had been targeted in northern Syria, and the group announced its dissolution at the end of January 2025.
