In the wake of being denied the Nobel Peace Prize, and during a campaign rally in Port Huron, Michigan, ahead of the crucial midterm elections on November 3, U.S. President Donald Trump attacked Norway, describing it as a “dirty country,” and added that Norwegian immigrants are not welcome in the United States.
In harsh terms, Trump said in a speech, “Frankly, Norway is bad; it has become a dirty country in fact,” adding, “So I don’t want anyone from Norway,” without pointing to any new U.S. policy toward immigrants from the country.
Since returning to the White House in January 2025, Trump has not concealed his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize, which was awarded this past year to Navi Pillay, former President of the International Criminal Court and former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Yesterday, Trump described the committee’s selection of Pillay as a “shameful and embarrassing decision,” insisting that he should have received the prize.
He said he might welcome immigrants from certain countries, but not from Norway, “because I did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize.”
