Worqa Bank announced its sponsorship of the “Universities Challenge for Recycling E-Waste,” as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting environmental initiatives, promoting sustainability concepts within society, and instilling a culture of environmental conservation among youth and students, thereby contributing to building a generation more aware of the importance of recycling and responsible handling of e-waste.
This sponsorship follows a memorandum of understanding signed by Worqa earlier this year with Eco Incubator, the organizer of the challenge. The challenge represents an extensive environmental competition targeting universities, involving the collection and recycling of e-waste in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
The “Universities Challenge for Recycling E-Waste” focuses on collecting and retrieving e-waste from participating universities. Eco Incubator oversees the collection process, while Tadweery Company handles the sorting and full recycling of the waste, thereby reinforcing responsible environmental practices and mitigating the impact of improper disposal of e-waste.
The challenge builds upon an initiative launched last year in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, which resulted in the collection of over 5.5 kilograms of e-waste, underscoring the importance of continuing such initiatives and expanding participation.
In this context, Her Excellency Al-Rashid, Head of the Human Resources and Public Services Group at Worqa, stated: “The bank’s sponsorship of this challenge is not merely a transient gesture of support, but an extension of our firm commitment and our responsibility as a leading national banking sector to embrace environmental sustainability agendas. We believe that true investment is investing in the future of our environment and protecting it.”
Al-Rashid added: “We strive to leverage our capabilities to support projects and solutions that mitigate the environmental impact of waste. From this perspective, we have chosen to adopt this initiative, as it goes beyond achieving environmental metrics; it fundamentally contributes to instilling and entrenching the values of sustainability and environmental conservation in the hearts of our student sons and daughters.”
She emphasized that Worqa’s support for the challenge stems from its belief in the importance of enhancing environmental awareness among youth, noting that investing in spreading a culture of sustainability among students represents an investment in the future of society, given this group’s pivotal role in promoting positive practices and contributing to achieving environmental sustainability goals.
The challenge involves participation from various relevant entities, including the Public Authority for Environment, Kuwait Telecom Company, several private universities, alongside Eco Incubator and Tadweery Company, reflecting the importance of partnership and collaboration among different stakeholders to achieve the initiative’s objectives.
This partnership contributes to unifying efforts aimed at raising awareness about the importance of recycling e-waste and providing university students with the opportunity to directly participate in an initiative with environmental and social impact, thereby reinforcing concepts of responsibility and sustainability among them.
The initiative aligns with Worqa’s commitment to supporting projects whose outcomes extend beyond achieving direct impact, contributing instead to entrenching sustainable behaviors and practices among members of society.
The challenge places special emphasis on students, considering them a fundamental segment in building a more sustainable future. The initiative aims to instill and entrench the values of environmental conservation and recycling among them, transforming environmental awareness into practical action through participation in collecting and recycling e-waste.
In this context, the bank continues to support initiatives and projects that help mitigate the environmental impact of waste and enhance awareness of sustainable practices, in line with its commitments to social and environmental responsibility.
In conclusion of her statement, Al-Rashid expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs, the participating universities, the sponsoring entities, and Tadarory Company, emphasizing that “Warba” will continue to support initiatives that contribute to environmental protection and promote sustainability.
