The city of Hebron, in the southern occupied West Bank, witnessed an armed attack last Friday carried out by two Palestinian youths at the “Farsh al-Hawa” military checkpoint on the city’s western entrance.

Following the incident, Israeli authorities launched a series of measures described as “collective punishment” against the civilian population.

As part of these measures, occupation forces forcibly evicted dozens of Palestinian families from their homes on Saturday in the “Al-Jalda” and “Ayn Dir Baha” areas of Hebron.

Among the most harrowing scenes that dominated social media platforms was a video documenting a Palestinian family from the “Farsh al-Hawa” area sitting atop the rubble of their home, which had been destroyed by occupation forces as part of the collective punishment policy.

This move resulted in the forced displacement of approximately 250 families from the “Farsh al-Hawa” and “Abu Aqtila” areas, under strict measures that prevented families from taking their vehicles or belongings, except for one bag of clothes per family. Rights activists and observers condemned this as “organized forced displacement” that strips civilians of the most basic necessities of life.

Social media platforms witnessed widespread reactions to the aftermath of the events, with activists circulating a video of a family from the “Farsh al-Hawa” area sitting on the ruins of their home, which had been demolished by Israeli bulldozers.

Activists expressed solidarity with the scene, asserting that the demolition policy “will not succeed in uprooting Palestinians from their land,” and emphasizing the inevitability of resilience and victory, regardless of how far the occupation goes.

Tweeters also described the scenes coming from Hebron as “horrifying,” noting that the transformation of entire neighborhoods into rubble and the displacement of hundreds of families onto the streets evokes memories of the devastating destruction and forced displacement experienced in the Gaza Strip.

In the same context, followers warned against falling for the Israeli narrative that uses the armed attack as a pretext to justify the demolition of shops and buildings in “Farsh al-Hawa.”

Al-Qara clarified that occupation bulldozers had been demolishing homes near the “Farsh al-Hawa” checkpoint days before the attack, questioning, “Was the lion asleep, indeed? 925 checkpoints and obstacles suffocating the West Bank, and 57 new agricultural settlement outposts established within seven months of 2026, alongside relentless settler attacks.”

Al-Qara concluded his commentary by rejecting the justification for Israeli measures, stating, “What is this logic that sees the lion’s fangs embedded in the victim’s body, then blames the victim for moving? The lion was not asleep. The tragedy is that some bystanders demand the victim remain still so as not to disturb it while it devours them.”
