In a move aimed at developing mechanisms for collecting healthcare service fees and accelerating financial transactions, the Ministry of Health has adopted an electronic payment system via the government’s Tasdeed platform at Al-Farwaniya Hospital, as part of efforts toward digital transformation and updating administrative and financial procedures in health institutions, thereby facilitating payment processes and improving the experience of patients and visitors.
A report by the ministry regarding the computerization of registration and fee collection processes at Al-Farwaniya Hospital, a copy of which was obtained by Al-Jarida, revealed that approximately two million patients visit the hospital annually. It noted that cases subject to fee collection account for about 50 percent of total visitors, equivalent to one million patients.
The report clarified that the hospital records approximately 552,272 outpatient clinic visits annually, with an average of 150 patients admitted per day. It highlighted that the price list includes around 5,000 laboratory tests and 500 types of imaging procedures, reflecting the scale of operations that the electronic collection system must accommodate.
The report pointed out that the previous collection system no longer met the hospital’s needs, as it relied on manual methods and paper registers, required significant human intervention, was not directly linked to the specific procedure or transaction provided to the visitor, and suffered from an insufficient number of accounting staff to cover the volume of services rendered.
Implementing the electronic system through the Tasdeed platform aims to streamline fee registration and collection procedures, reduce reliance on paper and cash transactions, enhance the accuracy and transparency of financial transactions, minimize human errors, accelerate payment processes, and reduce waiting times.
The system also aims to govern the medical process in an organized manner that ensures patient safety and regulates fee registration methods, while distributing authorities and responsibilities according to the nature of work and legal obligations. Additionally, it seeks to apply the principle of transparency by sharing data with all relevant parties involved in the collection process.
