Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, during his second meeting with representatives of private-sector companies to discuss the “Wage Protection System: A Safeguard for the Workforce,” announced the suspension of files for 10,000 private-sector companies that had five or more workers registered under their names and had failed to pay their employees’ salaries for periods ranging from one to one-and-a-half years.

• The meeting was prompted by warnings issued during the previous session regarding the dangers of “guarantor sponsorship” (kafala) for citizens and the involvement of some in “money laundering,” with cases of this crime becoming increasingly numerous and prevalent in the State Security Investigations.

• Al-Yousef stated that the injustice of non-payment of salaries has reached a critical level, particularly affecting outsourced workers in cooperatives.

• Al-Yousef noted that within a few days, approximately 300 delivery workers violating regulations were deported.

• Al-Yousef revealed that a restaurant license was found registered under only one individual—his son—with 70 million dinars in assets linked to this restaurant and two additional companies.

• Rabab Al-Asimi, Director of the Workforce Department, announced the suspension of files for 10,000 new companies since last September that have failed to comply with paying their employees’ salaries.

• Al-Asimi emphasized that ensuring timely payment of workers’ salaries is one of the key factors in reducing labor-related problems and the subsequent strikes and protest sit-ins.

• Al-Asimi stressed the necessity of paying workers’ salaries before the seventh day of the following month.

• Al-Asimi added that suspending the files of non-compliant companies results in the cessation of workforce support payments to citizens registered under those companies’ files.
