Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani confirmed on Wednesday that he held “fruitful talks” with French President Emmanuel Macron during the latter’s state visit to Doha.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani said in a post on his official account on the X platform: “We discussed ways to strengthen our strategic partnership and expand areas of cooperation between our two countries, as well as exchanged views on key regional and international issues.”
He added: “We take pride in the development our relations have achieved, and in our shared commitment to consolidating security and stability and serving the mutual interests of our peoples.”
For his part, the French president, who arrived in Doha on Tuesday, said: “We are holding talks with all parties to de-escalate tensions in the region.”
While emphasizing the need to begin discussions with professional unions in several cities to prevent chaos, Macron stated that all necessary measures would be taken to prevent disorder during next Saturday’s protests.
According to Al Jazeera, curfews have been imposed in several cities, and no individual will be allowed to cause chaos.
He pointed out that foreign actors had intervened in the protests in France by fabricating scenes and images using artificial intelligence.
Macron noted: “We have succeeded in securing 2 terawatt-hours per month of gas from Qatar during the winter.”
