French international Manu Koné, who plays for Roma, will be sidelined for three weeks after suffering an injury in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League match, but is expected to return before the next international break, his coach announced on Saturday ahead of the seventh round of the Italian Serie A.

Gian Piero Gasperini, speaking before his team’s match against Genoa, said: “Koné underwent an MRI scan that revealed a first-degree thigh injury. It is not particularly serious, but it will require some time to heal.”

He added: “We hope he will be ready to return for the Sassuolo match (on November 7), and perhaps even slightly earlier.”

The 25-year-old French midfielder is expected to miss four Serie A matches and two Champions League games.

During the most recent international break, which marked the beginning of Zinedine Zidane’s tenure as head coach of the French national team, Koné, with 22 international caps, participated in three of France’s four matches, playing the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 victory over Turkey.

France will play their next two UEFA Nations League matches on November 12 against Italy, followed by a fixture against Turkey on November 15.
