The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday the execution of five citizens as a discretionary punishment (ta’zir) after they were convicted of terrorist offenses.

In a press statement on Saturday, the ministry said that Mohammed bin Munir bin Mohammed Al-Zaher, Ali bin Abdulrab Al-Hussein Al-Sheikh, Hassan bin Zaki bin Mohammed Al-Faraj, Rida bin Mohammed bin Ali Al-Abdullah, and Ali bin Hassan bin Ahmed Al-Rabih committed terrorist acts consisting of joining an external terrorist organization, repeatedly shooting at security personnel and security vehicles with intent to kill, possessing firearms and live ammunition, and providing support to finance and carry out terrorist operations within the Kingdom.

The Ministry of Interior stated that the investigation led to charges being brought against them and their referral to the competent court, which issued death sentences against them. These sentences were upheld by the Supreme Court before a royal decree was issued on October 17 to enforce them.

The ministry emphasized in its statement the Kingdom government’s commitment to ensuring security and achieving justice, while warning anyone who dares to commit such terrorist acts that their fate will be the prescribed legal punishment.
