Ukraine’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Maksym Subh, affirmed that Ukraine’s election as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2027–2029 term, having received 162 votes in the General Assembly, and Kuwait’s re-election for the same period, bring the two countries together at a milestone of special significance. This reflects the international community’s confidence in their roles in supporting human rights and safeguarding human dignity.
Subh told Al-Jarida that the election of the new member states took place on October 13, with their terms beginning on January 1, 2027. He noted that Ukraine’s membership comes at a time when its people are grappling with the impacts of war and violations affecting civilians, making its voice in the Council crucial for advancing the protection of victims, enhancing accountability, and defending the principles of international law.
He added that Kuwait’s re-election for a second consecutive term underscores its continued presence on this international platform, enabling it to sustain its contributions to efforts aimed at promoting human rights, dialogue, and multilateral cooperation.
On this occasion, Subh congratulated Kuwait, its leadership, government, and people, on this significant diplomatic achievement, which reflects the high regard and trust it enjoys on the international stage and affirms its active role in supporting human rights causes and multilateral work.
He further stated that Ukraine’s and Kuwait’s participation in the Council carries implications beyond the voting results, placing the two countries, belonging to different regional groups, under a shared responsibility to work toward a world where fundamental rights are respected and human dignity is upheld in times of peace and crisis.
Subh pointed out that Ukraine’s election with 162 votes and Kuwait’s re-election with 173 votes represent international recognition, as well as a clear mandate to engage in serious and balanced work that enhances the credibility of the Human Rights Council and brings the international community closer to its core objective: protecting people and their rights.
