The Spanish Ambassador to Kuwait, Manuel Gamayo, stated that his country regards Kuwait as a “key strategic partner,” noting that “the next phase will focus on enhancing cooperation in the defense, health, cybersecurity, and food security sectors.” He emphasized that Spain “views the State of Kuwait as a fundamental element in supporting moderation, peace, and stability in the region,” and reaffirmed “the importance of Kuwait’s role in strengthening regional security and stability.”
In a speech delivered during a celebration of his country’s National Day at the Spanish Embassy, attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Hamad Al-Mushaan and a gathering of accredited ambassadors and diplomats, Gamayo underscored the significance of the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and their continuous development across various fields. He highlighted Spain’s aspiration to elevate political, economic, and security cooperation, reflecting the depth of historical ties and shared interests.
He noted that Kuwaiti-Spanish relations are undergoing a dynamic and promising phase, particularly following the results of the bilateral political consultations held in the Spanish capital, Madrid, on the 7th of this month.
He explained that both sides agreed during the consultations to move toward establishing a strategic political dialogue, which would represent a qualitative leap in institutional relations between the two countries. This dialogue would include high-level meetings and the formation of specialized working groups to examine areas of mutual interest for cooperation.
Gamayo pointed out that Spain views Kuwait as a key strategic partner, a fact reflected in the economic and trade indicators between the two nations. He noted that Spanish exports to the Kuwaiti market have experienced continuous growth in recent years, while Spanish imports from Kuwait rose by more than 200 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year.
He highlighted the presence of Spanish companies in several vital sectors in Kuwait, including renewable energy, oil, civil aviation, and transport infrastructure, emphasizing that the contributions of these companies reflect Spain’s commitment to supporting Kuwait’s development and progress.
He revealed that preparations are underway to hold the next meeting of the Kuwaiti-Spanish Joint Economic Commission in Madrid in 2027, with the aim of expanding trade and investment cooperation and strengthening economic partnerships between the two countries.
