This came during a speech delivered by the Emir of the State of Qatar at the opening of the second session of the second legislative term, which corresponds to the 55th annual session of the Shura Council.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani clarified that the State of Qatar had been subjected to an attack on its territory by Iran, in a blatant violation of its sovereignty. He stated that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the damage to Ras Laffan had caused a significant disruption to the country’s exports, noting that Qatar accounts for approximately one-fifth of the world’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade, and that any impact on it necessarily affects global markets and consumers.

He emphasized that Qatar had shouldered the responsibility of protecting its sovereignty and fulfilling its role in ensuring global energy security and economic stability, highlighting Doha’s contributions to ceasefire efforts and the opening of waterways.

The Emir of Qatar stressed that the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the preservation of their sovereignty are matters that cannot be compromised, affirming that his country has always preferred to resolve disputes through negotiation, diplomacy, and peaceful means, and that it will continue to work with brotherly nations and international partners to keep the region safe and stable.

On the economic front, the Emir of Qatar noted that the national economy faced the current crisis with strength and maintained a high growth rate throughout 2025.

He attributed this to the policies adopted by the state prior to the current crisis, which enabled it to absorb the repercussions thus far, emphasizing that Qatar will emerge from this crisis more resilient and better adapted to global changes.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, the Emir of Qatar warned against the continuous Israeli violations against the brotherly Palestinian people, affirming that what occurred in the Gaza Strip “constitutes, without doubt, genocide,” and that those responsible must not escape accountability.

He also issued a warning about the escalating risks of settler attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank, which are carried out with the protection of the Israeli army.
