Kuwait and Guinea: Strengthening Cooperation in Food Security

Kuwait’s Assistant Undersecretary for African Affairs, Ambassador Samih Khayat, affirmed that Kuwait and Guinea are moving toward expanding the horizons of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of food security and direct investments. He noted that relations between the two countries date back to 1964 and are characterized by high-level visits, amid a shared aspiration to strengthen economic and developmental partnerships.
In a statement to journalists on the sidelines of the Guinean embassy’s celebration of the 68th anniversary of Guinea’s independence, Khayat said that the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development has contributed over many years to supporting infrastructure projects in Guinea, alongside the role played by Kuwaiti charitable associations in supporting developmental efforts there.
He added that the coming phase offers opportunities to increase Kuwaiti economic presence in Guinea, particularly in the food security sector, expressing his hope that Kuwaiti companies will invest in this area, thereby enhancing economic cooperation and serving the common interests of both countries.
He revealed a move toward signing an agreement between Kuwait and Guinea in the near future, clarifying that he intends to visit Guinea once full consensus is reached on the issues at hand, which would push bilateral relations toward further cooperation.
For his part, Mamadou Aliou Sow, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Guinean Embassy in Kuwait, affirmed his country’s aspiration to expand economic and investment partnership with Kuwait, calling on the Kuwaiti government, private sector, investment institutions, and development funds to explore available opportunities in the Guinean market.
He praised the role played by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development in supporting developmental projects in his country, particularly in the fields of roads, infrastructure, education, health, and rural development, considering these contributions as a reflection of the deep relations based on solidarity and cooperation between the two countries.
He clarified that Guinea possesses diverse investment opportunities in sectors such as mining, including bauxite, gold, and iron, as well as agriculture, energy, manufacturing industries, infrastructure, and tourism, expressing his country’s hope to attract more Kuwaiti investments in these areas.
